The Brief

Myriad Streams was conceived as an alternative to mainstream music platforms — a place where non-commercial, artist-led creativity could thrive without noise, algorithms, or pressure to perform for attention.

Jazz musician Phil Bancroft approached Digital Dexterity with a clear vision:

  • A calm, beautiful online space centred on deep listening

  • A platform owned and controlled by artists

  • Simple tools to upload, organise, and present music, writing, and video

  • A sustainable model that supports artists directly, not intermediaries

The challenge was to translate a strong cultural philosophy into a practical, scalable digital platform, while keeping everything accessible, affordable, and human.

Our Approach

From the outset, Myriad Streams was designed and built 100% in-house by Digital Dexterity — from initial concept through to launch — demonstrating the full range of skills we bring to bespoke digital projects.

We worked closely with Phil in a true collaboration, ensuring that every technical decision supported the underlying values of the platform: care, slowness, depth, and long-term sustainability.

Rather than adapting an off-the-shelf CMS or streaming solution, we built a custom system tailored specifically to artists’ needs, allowing musicians to focus on their work rather than technology.

What We Built

A Bespoke Artist-Led Platform

  • Custom content management for albums, playlists, tracks, videos, and writing
  • Intuitive upload and organisation tools designed for non-technical users
  • Flexible architecture designed to scale into a future “village” of artist sites

Membership & Access Mode

  • Tiered memberships, including low-cost short-term access
  • Secure authentication and account management
  • Future-ready infrastructure for paid content and digital releases

Sharing Credits System (In Development)

  • A values-driven alternative to marketing algorithms
  • Trackable sharing links tied to member IDs
  • Credits earned through genuine listening and sharing, redeemable against access or downloads

Calm, Considered Design

  • A restrained, uncluttered visual language that puts the music first
  • Typography and layout choices that encourage reflection rather than distraction
  • A UX deliberately free from “hard sell” tactics or attention-grabbing gimmicks

Performance, Security & Longevity

  • Optimised performance for streaming media
  • Robust security and data protection baked in from day one
  • Clean, maintainable codebase designed for long-term evolution

The Result

Myriad Streams is more than a website — it’s a digital home for a lifetime of creative work.

At launch, the platform features the music of Phil Bancroft, with plans to expand into a growing community of artists who value depth, integrity, and direct relationships with listeners.

Listeners gain a quiet space to explore music without algorithms deciding what they hear, while artists retain control over their work, presentation, and income.

Why This Project Matters to Us

Myriad Streams is a perfect example of what Digital Dexterity exists to do:

  • Build bespoke digital platforms, not templates

  • Combine technical depth with cultural sensitivity

  • Support independent creators with tools that respect their values

  • Deliver complex functionality through simple, elegant user experiences

Every line of code, every design decision, and every system interaction was created in-house — demonstrating our ability to handle strategy, design, development, performance, and scalability within a single, joined-up process.

In Phil’s Words:

“Myriad Streams has been built with love and care by Paul Egan of Digital Dexterity in partnership with Phil Bancroft, with the support of Creative Scotland.”
